On Monday, July 25, 2005, while in Washington, DC for
DMA's Annual Meeting, four members of PA DMA met with Anna K. Mitchell,
a representative of Senator Rick Santorums healthcare team to
discuss proposed legislation that would require a CDM credentialed
manager in every hospital, nursing home and assisted living facility
in the absence of a full-time dietitian. Below is John Ferrand's thank-you
letter to Ms. Mitchell.

Dear Anna:
On behalf of myself and the Dietary Managers Association, I want to
thank you once again for allowing us your time to speak with you about
our organization on Monday, July 25. I appreciate your willingness
to participate in our visit to the Capitol while we held our Annual
Meeting in Washington, DC, and for your support in working with dietary
managers.
If you remember, while we met, we asked for support in changing federal regulations to require long- term care facilities to have a Certified Dietary Manager as the full time director of dietary services when a qualified dietitian is not on staff full time. I am confident that our efforts will ultimately improve the quality of dietary services provided in long-term care facilities in Pennsylvania and across the country.
If you have suggestions as to how the Dietary Managers Association can become more involved in changing regulations to recognize the Certified Dietary Manager in long-term care facilities, we would love to hear from you.
I would like to ask that the PA DMA be put on your mailing list. The address is PA DMA, John Ferrand, State Spokesperson, PO Box 12, Mountainhome, PA 18342.
Sincerely,
John Ferrand, CDM/CFPP
